well me and my dad drilled his pipes on his yamaha v-star,,we drilled holed around the baffle and it sounds great now..look it up on youtube.

First thing, if you tamper with your stock pipes in any way it will void your warranty, and when you go to sell it they’ll give you less since it has a ’self modded’ pipe(s) on it. Your best bet is just to buy some Vance & Hines, they make quite a few styles to choose from for Road Stars.

This way, you will still have your stock pipes to put back on the bike when you sell it then sell the aftermarket pipes.

Also, if it’s fuel injected, you will more than likely need to get your ECM re-mapped if you gut the stock pipes or purchase aftermaket pipes

Im guessing you want the bike to sound louder.. easy fix. broom handle up the pipe.. hit the end with a hammer until the first baffle is dislodged..

you can buy quieter baffles for them too or wrap the ones you got loud pipes save lives

The dealer will sell and install anything you want to part you from your money.Here in Tx they can get you for noise from un baffled pipes.And the way the EPA regs are going soon it will be illegal to have any pipes besides stock ones put on a bike.

Pipes are illegal for either 2 reasons: Too loud for local ordinances or don’t meet the air quality standards of the EPA. Most aftermarket pipes are illegal if they are install with no noise quieting baffles.

As long as they have the baffles installed you should be ok. They are probably "technically" illegal because they don’t meet EPA standards. As far as the local law is concerened as long as they are not straight pipes you shouldn’t get any tickets.

It all depends on the amount of flow, or more specifically, the lack of back pressure in the new pipes. Generally speaking, if you change anything involving air and the motor, ie exhaust pipes, intake, filter, etc, you need to adjust the computer or re jet the carbs. It is highly recommended that you alter the intake to make it more free flow and to adjust the computer.
