It is the silencer, not the pipe, that makes it quiet. FMF Q4 series spark arrestor silencer is quieter than stock and will make more power. Supertrapp makes some that are quieter and give more power too.

I bought the bike a few weeks ago as a project for the coming summer, but the exhaust is in a bad way and full of holes, would i need to get a fully custom exhaust or could one of these from ebay be fitted?

Yes, you can fit that to your exhaust or go to an exhaust shop and have them make one for you. The cheapest way is a straight pipe with a little lawnmower exhaust attached to the end.

In Florida or online
at ur local auto parts store
the 2 mufflers are removable from the main header pipes and just clamp on a 30 inch section of straight 1 1/2" automotive exhaust pipe.
you can buy stainless steel straight pipe sections, or you can buy steel pipe and paint it flat black with high heat paint, or rap it with exhaust tape, it will look wild!

i dont have 350$ for a new aftermarket exhuast for my bike, is there anything i can do other than buy a new exhaust? my friend told me to remove the baffles in it? i know nothing about exhaust’s so i really dont know if that would help or hinder my bike.
Don’t remove the baffles. That’s almost like sticking a pipe through a catalytic converter except you wont get that honey comb stuff it will be metal and your create more of a restriction. Wait until you can buy a new exhaust. or just take your muffler out and put in straight pipe. lol. Good luck

Is there a slip on exhaust out there for a 07′ GS500F that won’t sink $400 bones out of my wallet. Also how hard are they to install?? Thanks….
yeah, that $400 would get you a nice yoshimura slip on, which is what i’m looking at. check out ebay, you can get them for much less than that. remember: you get what you pay for, and you might not be as happy with a cheap slip-on as you are with your stock pipe.

Hey Folks!
I’ve recently acquired a ‘99 Suzuki Katana 600, which I’m totally loving being on.. however, there’s couple of things which do makes me a bit uncomfortable, and I can’t help thinking of fixing them somehow..
just fyi.. I’ve recently got the Jets changed (replaced a new kit) with the fuel flowing richer than usual..
Now, for starters, I’m facing ignition / startup problems in the morning.. although it’s cold here, but still it takes quite a while, and after starting the first time, the rpm gets lower and lower and ultimately the engine stops.. (even using choke)
Then comes the part where I have to throttle it a bit to start, and it gives out quite some smoke too..
Soon after it’s up, I still get the engine cutting off on me at certain points, as if the exhaust is choked.. there’s quite a lot of backfire pops from the exhaust.. and that continues for the whole time I ride it afterwards..
So, I hope you’ve got the scenario, and can guide me in the right direction..
Thanks in advance..

did you think to check the timing after re-jettting the carbs? Sometimes (almost always) when you re-jet your carbs the timing needs to be changed to coincide with more gas going into your cylinder and your combustion chamber has more fuel going in to it causing things not to jive, you need to take your cover off at your points and mark it before you move anything (this giving you a point to always come back to) . loosen your screws to adjust the timing plate and start the bike, then after it is warmed up (approximately 5 minutes) make an adjustment, rotating it left or right to see how it sounds, if it sounds like it’s running good, and you will know, because it sounds smooth. the next thing you need to do is see that it still starts up easily, and if it starts hard you need to re-adjust the timing until they both coincide, to find a happy medium. Just remember it is no different than a lawnmower engine (4 stroke) , and if you introduce more gas as it is going through it’s cycle the spark has to be at the proper time (coincide) to produce a continuous cycle to sustain running. I have worked on engines for 35 years and i am only 44

yoshi pipes always sound good. im a big fan of them on GSXRs. im about to buy a bike (probably gsxr600 actually) and if it doesnt already have a yoshi pipe on it thats what its getting.

Im just looking to buy a slip on and i was wondering what would be a good exhaust for it. Im looking for a good sound (like a deep, more throatier sound) and i really don’t care for high hp gains and whatnot. Also i dont wanna sacrifice any power either. Thank you!!!
