how can i remove plastic from my motorcycle exhaust pipes?

I have saddle bags on my motorcycle and I just got new exhaust pipes. The pipes melted my bags and now i have plastic and leather on my pipes. Does anyone have an idea how i can get this off?

Use EASY-OFF oven cleaner. I have used it for years with great results. Just follow the directions on the can.

can a motorcycle be certified with a rust hole in the exhaust pipe?

1978 gs550 only on the left side i am going to cut the rotten area out and weld in a patch but somebody told me you cant certify it if i do that? please help?

They might think you messed with the muffler. Fix it and then wrap your pipe in header wrap.

What’s wrong with my motorcycle? Bubbling sound after I ride in carburetor and exhaust.?

I recently bought a 1982 Suzuki 850 GS… The last owner had it in his garage for 2 years sitting. When I bought it I started it without problem and drove it home. I noticed during the ride some of the cylinders weren’t firing all the time and I passed it off as old/bad gas. This information may or may not be related in the ending problem but, soon after I’ve noticed when I come back from a 10 minute ride I’ll hear a bubbling sound from the carburetor and the engine right by the exhaust pipes. I think i’m burning off oil and that may be what I’m hearing. If that is what I’m hearing what would cause that? What else do you think it could be? Thanks a lot.

yeah you are burning oil

How do you build a motorcycle exhaust?

I have an 06 American Ironhorse Slammer. I can bend the pipes and build brackets, I can get them chromed. My question is what is the biggest circumference pipe you can use and what all do you need to attach them to the motor? Is it as easy as buying exhaust flanges and acorn nuts, or is there more to it? Thanks.

Good question. Very briefly and as silly as it sounds, the exhaust is still very much a part of the engine, like most parts, it needs to suit the engine. I would say a good guide is the outlet port diameter. Of equal importance is the length as it has to be ‘tuned’ to the engine to make it efficient or just sound nice :-)

You will probably need to buy the gaskets as it’s more hassle than it’s worth to fab’ them, I would suggest buying those specifically for your engine and base your exhaust diameter on that, taking into account heat expansion.

I hope that helps.

How do I clean the blueing off my vance and hines longshot exhaust pipes?

Is there a cleaner that will take the bleuing action off my v & h longshot motorcycle exhaust?

First you must be running rich and better check this out after you clean them up. Nothing takes bluing completely out. Blue Job is the best but I recommend using S100 soap before and after for the very best results you can get. S100 is a smart investment. Blue Job or other powders like it - you get about .5 ounces for 10-12 dollars and a little cloth. Make sure it’s not windy or you’ll need more. It will make a noticeable improvement but you’ll still see blue, no two ways about it. S100 is just magnificent on chrome or aluminum surfaces and I 100% endorse this product as safe and very useful.

Case in point - tennis shoe on a hot pipe, after you get the brown melt stain out using a cleaner and a polish - even Mothers Chrome polish for instance, theres this residual mark in the chrome - you almost see what looks like an imprint but it’s residue like. S100 will remove the residue, light marks, or even the haze like left over. Please note, polishing can be over-done and you could rub off the finish in extreme circumstances such as a battery acid spill - so use common sense.

I’ve seen nothing work better then S100 and Blue Job in combination, it will take elbow grease effort and patience but it will give you the best results. I know because I restore older motorcycles. You better check into a power commander or having your system re-mapped to limit the blue in the future

btw, I have Vance and Hines longshots on my Vulcan 1600…

Does my motorcycle exhaust need baffles?

i bought a fixer-upper and the exhaust is rusted. I want to cut it off halfway and just attach some raw pipe to the old exhaust for some cheap pipes. I cant afford new ones. Will this work? If i need baffles how can i make new ones?

You don’t NEED baffles they just quiet down the bike and provide back pressure so that the engine can be choked down enough to be tuned to epa standards that’s why you see that performance tuned pipes and bikes are not approved by the epa. you can leave your pipe a straight but its gonna be loud as hell and you will have to re-tune the bike to compensate for the extra flow you will be getting from a straight pipe.

where can i find baffles for custom motorcycle pipes?

i have these pipes http://www.motorcycle-exhaust.com/product/MORACE750creepers.html and i know its illegal to run straight pipes so i was wondering if anyone knew where i can find baffles for this exhaust system?

It would be nice if they had them to fit the pipes.
You may find something to fit in one of these:

motorcycle exhaust?

I just put a new two brothers flange on canister exhaust and slipping it on i put the gasket sealer on and i tightned the three bolts that hold it on to the pipe. When i started the bike i had condensation leaking from the flange on the bottom. So how is that? I put gasket sealer on where the canister hits the ring on the flange. Do i need to put more sealer on. After i rode around and let it idle it was fine. So?? Just wondering if that is normal. Thanks

Its fine when the engine is warm / hot.

All metals will expand, so it will fill the gaps.

Dont worry about it.
