1980 motorcycle mot laws?

hi i am part way through building a harley chop, and am wondering if i need a front fender and baffles in the exhaust, i know that i don’t need indicators, does anybody know where i can get what a 1980 bike requires for mot, thanks in advance

JULES
for an MOT the basics required are that the following IF FITTED need to be working.
lights ( optional for a day time MOT)
suspension (optional if it is a rigid)
Speedo ( not a requirement but if fitted MUST WORK inc the odometer)
LEGALLY required
Road legal TYRES
Road legal EXHAUST
a Constant HORN
SADDLE
FOOTRESTS for the rider
( if a dual saddle is fitted then footpegs for pillion required)
Mudguards (can be short and vestigial)
Chain guard
BRAKES working and functional

WHAT YOU DON’T NEED FOR AN MOT is an ENGINE!!!!!
seriously if you read the letter of the law nothing says the engine has to be present.

I’ve actually seen rolling frames taken in for an MOT so that one can be given and the bike insured and Taxed before it is even finished such that the bike can literaly be ridden out of the garage ( or show) on to the road once finished..

The basics are that if there is any space large enough to get a tennis ball into between mechanical moving parts it will fail, so if you intend to go fender less you will need the minimum of a fork brace over the front wheel preventing anything getting trapped between the wheel or frame.
On scooters you do not have to fit front mudguards if the body work extends over the wheel enough to prevent entrapment

does anyone know if you take the rivets out of a fat bob motorcycle exhaust will the baffles pull out easy?

the motorcycle is a 2009 harley davidson you can see the rivets from the back of the bike

if you want louder or different style pipes buy them and adjust the engine accordingly. if they are REALLY loud drive by Stevie’s house every morning .

Does anyone know how to successfully paint motorcycle exhaust?

Please don’t answer if you haven’t done it and had it work out well.
My chrome looks bad but the exhaust is still working great.
The baffles cannot be removed.

You can NOT paint exhaust. It is too hot and will bake off the paint. You need to have them re-chromed.

Triumph Bonneville T100, Arrow Exhaust, baffles removed

A clip (mainly for the sound) of my 2010 T100 with the baffles removed. It’s throaty at idle, and loud under throttle. Please pardon the video/sound quality, I recorded the video with a Sony Cybershot propped against a tree.

Will it hurt engine performance if I remove the baffles from my motorcycle exhaust?

Yes. You loose backpressure that the engineers at the factory designed into your bike.

This will actually make your low RPM power worse, and might make the bike run lean.

And your neighbors will hate you too.

1973 Honda CB500 four with open exhaust

Idle and rev with new Mac exhaust (baffle removed) and Dyna Ignition. Other mods include 550cc pistons, Web street camshaft, and high performance valve springs. Seems to run good with baffles in with just the stock jets…It runs a little rough with the baffles out but would probably be okay if I put in one size larger jets.
