Thanks to those answers. I am lookin at buying after-market pipes from a guy qho has a 97 n I have an 05, just wanted to make sure they would fit my bike…
They should. The pipes didn't change til the 07 bikes.
holy shit man!
get it fixed before you take flying lessons!
like the guy before siad….no air getting in
get it checked out!
Its not smoke its like little bits of oil or something. Anyone know what it is or how i can stop it?
it may be as simple as being over filled with engine oil. or as bad as rings going bad. take a white cloth and try to trap some of the stuff. determine if it is oil or not. it also could be carbon from the inside of the muffler, breaking loose. the packing in the muffler could be getting old or gas/oil fouled. and the bits could be breaking off in the exhaust.over time the packing breaks down and needs to be replaced. if it sat for a while,it could even be a mouse or bug nest.. I would take it to a good mechanic and have it checked out. oil smoke would be bluish colored. too much fuel would cause blacker smoke.Take out you sparkplug. (with the engine cold). look at the plug. if it is oily, and wet,you have an engine problem.if it is dry and brownish or tan, look for bad packing in the muffler.
I bought an ex500 (Ninja 500) used that came with a Vance and Hines super-sport single exhaust. Anything over about 2500-rpm and the thing is ridiculously loud, even with earplugs and a full face helmet on (both of which I use anyhow).

Needless to say, I wonder if there's something simple I can put on the bike to quiet the exhaust short of buying and installing a full stock exhaust system. Do any of you know of a method or product that would do this?
I would open it up and see if someone has taken out the packing material. It's extremely common for people to do that, and just as easy to put back. I just repacked the V&H can on my Buell. I think the packing kit cost about $12.00.
It might not be the problem, but it is the first thing I would check.
