The baffle in the exhaust on the right hand side has become detached and now is just rattling around inside the tailpipe. Does anyone know if
A-will this damage the engine?
B.-decrease the performance?
C.-can it be repaired or do I need to buy a new tailpipe?
Thanks-John
Hi John,
It won't damage the engine, and probably won't have much effect on performance, but, I can't imagine that you will want to keep listening to it rattle around. If it were mine I would purchase a replacement set of mufflers for an older model (1970 for instance) they have the more classic baloney/oval style. Such mufflers are available from most suppliers of Brit parts (I'd wager there are more parts and more vendors now than when those bikes were in their heyday). Of course, if your bike is presently in great original shape you may not want to change anything and keep it stock (the 77 mufflers are probably still available.

Ive just had my car inspected this morning and, i already knew, but theres an exhaust leak somewhere.
In December last year I was told it was the manifold gasket, which mind you looked like cricket stumps so yes it needed to be changed, so i had it changed. However it still makes a noise.
The mechanic said today that because its audible I need it fixed to pass rego but they cant look at it till late next wk. To late for me.
Any ideas..suggestions other than see a mechanic because DUH i know that.
the sound comes from the left hand side under the bonnet
Id say it would be a flange gasket or maybe it just needs tightening. Its where the exhaust has a flexi join that bolts together.somtimes the will go due to waer n tear and somtime they just need tightening.Worst case scenario it could be a cracked exhaust manifold wich will then need replacing.extractors are the cheaper way out.

I had cobra drag pipes(cobra pipes suck) which popped at any speed reduction, so I put Vance & Hines pipes on, which seemed to help alittle, but the bike still pops whenever I let off. Thus, what is the cure?
The air cut valves may be stuck, torn or not sealing.
That's why Honda put them on most of their bikes.
To reduce the air supply on deceleration, to prevent back firing on deceleration.

Well, if you consider a Harley the most popular, it's most common o.d. is 1 3/4 inch

I have a 1984 honda shadow that needs to pass MD inspection. The previous owner cut the baffles out of the exhaust and it is super loud now. Will this cause me to fail inspections, because the motorcycle is way to loud?
I sure hope so!
Have some respect for other people and fix the thing.

I have a 2004 sportster 1200. Right now it has screaming eagles on it but its not as loud as i want it to be.
I know there are a lot, but i want the loudest. If you have the loudest sportster around your block then want brand did you use?
I have a set of Rinehart Racing pipes on my 2003 Sportster. Everyone tells me it's extremely loud, but I haven't heard that yet - you know how different things sound ON the bike.
Mine is built up too, compression makes a difference in sound - so do the cams. But I like it a lot, so do other people - the people who don't like it, don't matter.
I bought, cut up, and built a sweet two into one pipe for mine from a Buell - Looked effing awesome too. But I got the Rineharts because I love the fat pipe look and black tips - heard they sounded killer and they do.
My stock pipes with the baffles drilled out pissed off a guy I knew because my Sporty sounded better than his BIG TWIN with Screamin' Eagle!!

Start the engine! You can remove the baffle or modify it, however, best bet is to get an aftermarket exhaust. Best is to trot down to the local Suzuki shop and see what kind of deal they can make for you.

i want to buy a Yamaha R1 but i want to know if i can change the exhaust system right away or would i have to wait? if i do how long do i have to wait… please help
The ‘08 R1 comes with a titanium underseat exhaust system… but hey, if you really want to change it then it’s your bike… do what you want with it.
Don’t forget to tell your insurance company that you’ve modified the bike.
